10 Must-Try Black-Owned Natural Hair Products for Healthy and Beautiful Tresses
1. Camille Rose Naturals
Kicking things off on the list of black owned natural hair products is no other than Camille Rose Naturals. Founded by Janell Stephens, Camille Rose Naturals offers a range of natural hair care products that are free of harsh chemicals, sulfates, and parabens. The brand’s Algae Renew Deep Conditioner is a fan favorite! It provides intense hydration and nourishment to dry, damaged hair.
I am huge on the importance of deep conditioning and this one is a game-changer! Other top products include the Curl Love Moisture Milk and the Honey Hydrate Leave-In Conditioner. A personal favorite of mine is the Almond Jai Twisting Butter.
Twist-outs are my go-to style so I always need a twisting product on deck! The butter smells heavenly and leaves my curls looking defined and feeling soft!
2. Melanin Haircare
This line was started by the one and only, Whitney White aka Naptural85, and her sister Teffeta White. Whitney is the OG natural hair blogger. She has been a YouTube Vlogger for roughly 15 years, with over 1 million subscribers on the platform!
So, this beauty knows what she is talking about. I absolutely LOVE her entire line. I’ve tried all of her products and I am of course a repeat customer. My faves are the Multi-Use Softening Leave-In Conditioner and the Twist Elongating Cream.
3. Mielle Organics
Monique Rodriguez founded Mielle Organics. Mielle’s high-quality, affordable products have become a staple in the natural hair community. The Babassu Oil & Mint Deep Conditioner is a must-have for anyone looking to moisturize and strengthen their curls.
The Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner is another popular product that leaves hair soft, shiny, and manageable. When I first started taking care of my natural hair, the entire pomegranate and honey line was my lifeline!
4. TGIN
Thank God It’s Natural, or TGIN, was founded by Chris-Tia Donaldson. Her goal was to provide natural hair care products to the industry that actually works. Also, there weren’t many brands at the time that catered to kinky, wavy, and textured hair needs.
The Miracle Repairx Protective Leave-In Conditioner is a game-changer for those dealing with breakage and damage. TGIN’s Moisture Rich Sulfate-Free Shampoo is another top pick for those looking for a gentle, moisturizing cleanser. A personal favorite of mine is the Honey Miracle Hair Mask.
I am low porosity and this conditioner brings all the moisture and manageability like you wouldn’t believe! Thank God for this brand and the amazing efforts of the late Chris-Tia Donaldson.
5. Kinky-Curly
Kinky-Curly was founded by Shelley Davis with a mission to provide natural hair care products that are both effective and eco-friendly. It was one of the first brands to hit the market when natural hair care began gaining traction. The Knot-Today Leave-In conditioner is a classic favorite among fans, making detangling a breeze.
Kinky-Curly’s Curling Custard is another top-notch product that provides definition and hold without leaving hair crunchy or stiff. My favorite product is the Kinky-Curly Come Clean Shampoo. The cleanser leaves my hair and scalp squeaky clean without stripping my hair strands of its natural oils. This is a win for those that use a lot of products and need a good cleanse while retaining moisture.
6. Taliah Waajid
Taliah Waajid’s products are a staple in many natural’s hair care pantries. The ingredients are also natural and chemical-free, suitable for those that want a healthy hair care regimen. Taliah Waajid was started by Taliah herself, at the tender age of 14.
The company has various collections and products, including skincare. I will always love the Green Apple and Aloe collection. The Apple and Aloe curl definer cream works like magic and smells just like green apples.
7. Oyin Handmade
Oyin Handmade was founded by Jamyla Bennu and her husband Pierre. It offers a range of natural hair care products that are handmade with love and care. The company just celebrated 20 years of being in business.
What a milestone to reach! Its Honey Hemp Conditioner is beloved by many consumers. This silky conditioner provides nourishment and ultimate hydration to dry, damaged hair. The Ginger Mint Co-Wash is another amazing product that provides gentle cleansing and moisturizing all in one.
8. Curls
Curls was founded in 2002 by Mahisha Dellinger. This is another OG company that jump-started when there was not much info out there to help care for natural hair. Curls offers products for various hair textures, such as curly, wavy, and kinky.
Their products are free from sulfates, silicones, parabens, and other harsh chemicals that can strip curly hair of its natural oils and cause damage. The Curls product line includes shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and treatments for both adults and children. I have tried the entire blueberry bliss line.
Guess what my favorite product is from Blueberry Bliss? Well, the twisting cream of course 😅. I’m a twist-out gal. Curls gets an A+ in my book, especially because they exclude silicones from their products.
Silicones are controversial as it pertains to naturally curly hair. Some curlies don’t mind silicone, but others do including myself 🙋🏾♀️. I can discuss silicones in another post!
9. Kriya Botanicals
This brand has been around for roughly a decade. It was founded by Tammie Umbel, a licensed cosmetologist and herbalist. Kriya Botanicals was created to provide natural and organic hair care products that are gentle and promote hair growth.
Some of their key ingredients include ayurvedic herbs, such as Alma, Brahmi, and neem, as well as nourishing oils like argan oil, jojoba oil, and avocado oil. Their products work so well! I’ve tried the entire low-porosity line, but they also have products for high-porosity hair.
10. Sienna Naturals
Last, but certainly not least is Sienna Naturals. This brand is one of the youngest on the list. It was founded in 2017 by Hannah Diop. In 2020, American Actress Issa Rae became a co-owner of the hair care.
Sienna Naturals was created to provide effective natural hair care for curly and coily textures. The product line includes shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and hair treatments. All products are formulated with natural and organic ingredients. Sienna Naturals uses nothing but clean and harsh-free ingredients in its products.
Their formulas are free from sulfates, silicones, parabens, and other harsh chemicals that could cause damage. I have yet to try this line, but it’s on my list because the reviews are 🔥🔥 👍🏾. So, there you have it!
