15 Hairstyles for Black Women

1. Drawstring Ponytail with Flat Twists

You could get this look at home or at the salon. I did this myself and it lasted about 2 weeks! Moreover, I usually prefer wrap-around ponytails with the hair attached to the track, but I was pleasantly surprised with this drawstring pony!

Additionally, It was much quicker to put on my head ✅, there were no pins uncomfortably sticking me in my scalp ✅, and no one could tell that it is a drawstring ✅!

This look and the ease of achieving it is a win-win!

2. Crochet Spring Twists

Doesn’t it look like this style took hours and hours to complete? However, it took about 2 hours in total! The natural hair is cornrowed underneath. Then, the spring twists are installed over the cornrow braids with a latch hook.

This style gives the look of individual twists in half the time to install.

3. Bohemian Faux Locs

Another beautiful crochet hairstyle! Again, the hair is braided underneath in order to install the boho locs crochet hair. This style is beginner friendly and can also be achieved in 2 hours!

4. Blonde Box Braids

Box braids, anyone? This style can last anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks! Moreover, not only do they last a long time, but they are super cute!! They are incredibly low maintenance, but be sure to oil the scalp at least once a week to avoid itching.

Another tip would be to lightly spray the braids with a moisturizer or leave-in to get some hydration to your hair under the braids. Just spritz a little and lightly rub into the braids with your hands.

5. Sleek High Ponytail

This style is laid!! It’s perfect for cooler months like fall, winter, and early spring to avoid humidity and sweating out the ‘do. The hair looks chemically relaxed, but it has been blow-dried, silk pressed, and molded with a hold product such as edge control to achieve a sleek look.

Lastly, spray with a finishing spray for added shine, and voila!

6. Wand Curls w/ Top Knot

A curling wand was used to achieve these curls. Also, Kanekalon braiding hair is used to add volume to the top knot bun. This style took about 30-45 minutes to do and it can be worn all seasons! I wore it during the summer and my curls did last for a day or two!

Furthermore, I used some edge control to smooth the base of the top knot bun and hair spray to freeze my wand curls.

7. Halo Braid

Certainly, this is such a classy and beautiful style. The look can be created on blown-out hair – with or without added hair. It should be sure to last at least one week.

8. Two Strand Twist Space Buns

A variety of looks can be done on individual two-strand twists. This style can be created with or without twisting hair. However, I chose to twist my own hair with my favorite twisting cream and I sealed it with a multipurpose blend oil. Lastly, I added hair jewels to accentuate the double buns.

Twists are great for the hotter months, but this style can be worn during all seasons.

9. Tapered Cut Curls

Surely, this is one of the most trendy styles lately! If you’re thinking of getting more of an edgy look for your curls, I would go to a professional to get the tapered cut. It’s such a cute and carefree style!

10. Bun With Curly Bangs

Instagram: @terese_margo_

Want bangs, without cutting your hair? That’s exactly how I got this style! Use flexi-rods or perm-rods for the bangs. Also, use a foaming mousse to hold, define, and reduce frizz. Be sure to leave curling rods in the hair overnight.

Lastly, ensure that the hair is FULLY DRY before removing the curlers. A doughnut bun holder may be used to shape the bun, but that is optional.

11. Curly TWA

What is a twa you might ask? It stands for Tiny Weeny Afro. If you’re familiar with a big chop, this is usually the beginning stages of growing out chemical-free natural hair. Additionally, this style can be worn at any stage.

Meanwhile, if you have been natural for years, but love a shorter look, then this is a go-to! Or as mentioned above, if you have chopped your hair short to begin the natural hair journey, then this is what the end result would look like. Another carefree, simple look. To keep the curls defined, use a leave-in conditioner and gel combo or curl-defining cream.

12. Fulani Braids w/ Curly Ponytail

Instagram: @terese_margo_

Want a Fulani braid-inspired style with a twist? Fulani braids usually require the entire head to be braided. Do a quick Google search and you’ll see what I mean! I like to bring my own inspiration to my hair choices and I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. The look came out beautiful! 🤩👌🏾

I added beads to maintain the Fulani look and used a curly drawstring ponytail. Certainly, the braids would last longer with added braiding hair, but I chose to cornrow my own hair. It lasted for 2-3 weeks.

13. Blonde Bob

Want a shorter, bright, and bold look without cutting and dyeing your own hair? All I could say is thank GOD for the evolution of wigs! We can now buy wigs that look just like our own hair.

Also, they’re not just for the older or balding. Many women choose wigs as a protective style or just for a different look.

14. Nubian Ponytail

What a look we have here! This is a Summertime fine hairstyle! I’d say that it could be worn all year round, because it is amazingly gorgeous!

Last but not least..

15. High Puff

Certainly, I believe that this is every black woman’s go-to style – natural hair or chemically relaxed! It’s so simple, but so cute! Get the look with your own hair or an Afro puff drawstring ponytail.
